Security configuration
5.1 Security
When connected to the Internet, computers in a LAN face the risk of being attacked or
accessed by unauthorized users on the Internet.
Implementing adequate and effective
security measures to protect LAN is thus vital to ensure safe and comfortable networking.
The product is equipped with the following security functions for always-on connection to
the Internet.
NAPT (IP masquerading)
A global IP address provided by ISP is converted to private IP addresses in LAN to
prevent outsiders on the Internet from identifying PC’s within the LAN.
Unauthorized
access from the outside is thus blocked or made extremely difficult.
Stateful Packet Inspection
The product utilizes Stateful Packet Inspection as its firewall technology.
Packet
consistency is checked per communication session to open only the required ports.
Ports in use are blocked as soon as communication is over.
Furthermore, the
technology detects DoS (Denial
of Services) attacks from
the
Internet to
block
unauthorized access from the outside.
ALG (Application Level Gateway)
Packets are allowed or blocked at the application level.
Packet Filtering
Packets received from the Internet are inspected to check whether they are allowed in
the
local
network.
Conditions
to

Virtual Computer
When one of the PC’s in the LAN is defined as Virtual Computer host, all connection
requests from the WAN side will be forwarded to the host.
User Authentication by ID and Password
Login ID and password are required to modify the configuration of the product.
