4.5 Proxy DNS
The product is equipped with a proxy DNS function.
When each PC on the LAN side
attempts to make a connection to a specific domain name on the Internet (DNS inquiry),
proxy
DNS
forwards
the
inquiry
to
a
DNS
server
on
the
Internet
and
returns
the
corresponding IP address to the PC.
The LAN side PC in this example is unaware that
proxy is forwarding the inquiry to the DNS server, and to the PC the product appears as if it
is serving as a DNS server that manages the domain (on the Internet) – to- IP address
association.
If there are multiple online sessions on the WAN side, upon reception of DNS inquiry from
LAN-side PC, the built-in proxy DNS of the product will send inquiry packet to DNS server
on all of the active sessions.
In this case, data communication takes place using a
session whose DNS server responded. If DNS servers of two or more sessions respond,
the session which received response first will be used.
